The German Shepherds
The German Shepherd is one of the world’s most well-known and popular dog breeds, admired for its intelligence, loyalty, and versatile skills. Originating in Germany, the breed was developed in the late 19th century with the primary purpose of working as a herding and service dog.

History
The history of the German Shepherd breed dates back to the 1890s, when Captain Max von Stephanitz aimed to create a universal working dog that was strong, intelligent, and obedient. He selected local shepherd dogs known for their working skills and endurance. The first registered German Shepherd, Horand von Grafrath, was recorded in 1899 when von Stephanitz founded the German Shepherd Association (SV).

Initially bred as a herding dog, the German Shepherd quickly proved to be suitable for other roles, such as police, rescue, and military service. The breed gained worldwide recognition in the early 20th century and remains one of the most widely used service dogs today.

Appearance and Character
The German Shepherd is a medium to large-sized dog, muscular and powerful. Its height at the withers typically ranges from 55–65 cm, with a weight of 22–40 kg. The breed has a double coat that can be short or long, and its coloration is often black and tan, black, or sable.

German Shepherds are intelligent, easily trainable, and highly loyal to their families. They are suited for both work and companionship but require sufficient mental and physical stimulation to avoid boredom and behavioral issues.

Today
Today, German Shepherds are used in various roles, including:

  • Police and military service dogs
  • Rescue dogs
  • Guide dogs for the visually impaired
  • Companion and sport dogs (e.g., obedience trials, agility)

The breed’s versatility and work ethic make it one of the most valued dog breeds in the world.

Liina Sepp

I am a dog breeder whose journey in the dog world began in 2000 when I started training my first Doberman in obedience and protection. My deep love for German Shepherds started in 2003 when I presented a dog as a handler at the Estonian German Shepherd Club’s Main Show for the first time. In 2004, I got my first German Shepherd, Inxest Ally-Cayla, and she marked the beginning of my serious journey with this remarkable breed. Over the years, I have worked as a handler for many kennels, learning about the unique characteristics and temperament of German Shepherds. My love and respect for the breed grew with every experience, eventually leading me to become a breeder. In 2010, I established my own kennel with the goal of breeding German Shepherds with strong health and truly characteristic temperament. For me, it is important to raise dogs that are not only beautiful and strong but also exceptional companions, meeting breed standards while preserving the best qualities of the German Shepherd. I am deeply committed to my work as a breeder and approach it with great passion and responsibility. Every puppy born in my kennel carries forward carefully chosen lines and values that reflect my love for this incredible breed.
